Bow Your Head At the Funerals for Dead Gods

If all the gods people have ever believed in no longer exist, the least we could do is hold a funeral for all of them.

Thankfully, Mike Lee, Mikey Pullman, and Ashley Paramore put one of those together:

Who knew you could have a funeral with a happy ending?

That is not dead which can eternal lie, and with strange æons even death may die.

It isn’t a new idea.  Thomas Hardy wrote a poem, God’s Funeral that expressed his sadness at his loss of faith.  For many losing religion is a positive experience but for some it must be quite traumatic.

On the video one comment was made that I disagree with 3.35.  “We, as the human race, still have one god to dethrone.”  We have several gods to dethrone.  How many hundreds of versions of Jesus/God exist in Christianity alone.  What of Abraham’s God as worshipped by the different version of Islam or by different Jews?  What of Hindus many gods?  What of Mormons strange alien gods, JWs weirdly obsessive deity, even the god of Deists needs debunking in its own way.

Is that Zoroaster on the right? He is neither a god (just a prophet for the god Ahura Mazda) nor is he really dead since there are still adherents to Zoroastrianism.

  • Yup. Good reasoning indeed.
