I’m Going on Vacation… August 1, 2011

I’m Going on Vacation…

For the first time in a really long time, I’m going out of the country. I’m leaving tomorrow, not coming back until early next week, and I’m probably not going to have Internet access while I’m out. I will do my best to have crazy adventures, get kidnapped, save the world, or do something worth blogging about while I’m gone.

Or maybe I’ll just drink margaritas several hours a day while getting a (second) tan.

Anyway, being this “unplugged” is a relatively new experience for me… if I’m not updating this site, I feel like I’m neglecting my child.

So in my absence, I’m letting students take over! Running the site over the next week will be Jessica Ahlquist, the high school activist trying to remove a religious banner from her high school, and Stef McGraw (and other leaders) of the University of Northern Iowa Freethinkers and Inquirers. They’ll tell you more about themselves over the course of the next week.

I had a chance to meet both of them at the Secular Student Alliance convention over the past weekend and you’re all in for a treat. They have incredibly important/relevant things to say about the state of atheism in our high schools and college campuses — and, I’m sure, plenty of other issues as well. They have complete freedom to discuss whatever they’d like. I know there will be other guest bloggers joining them, too, and I can’t wait to read the conversations when I return 🙂

Just FYI, I’ve given them full permission to delete troll-y comments. (So be nice!)

What Are Your Thoughts?leave a comment
  • No internet? That’s just crazy talk. Why would anybody want to put themselves through such hell? And where is this mythical place of internetlessness?

Enjoy your time off the grid!

Have fun, and don’t worry for a moment that Jessica and Stef will do such a fabulous job that we won’t even miss you.

Oh come now, international roaming data is only $1.73 per byte, plus taxes, fees, and absurdly poor currency conversion rates! I can’t believe you wouldn’t bend over backwards to get access at such low, low prices. 🙂

Hope you have a great time! We’ll try not to let things get _too_ chaotic in your absence. 😉

(Aww, who am I kidding, it’s party time!)

I give you a day before you hunt down an internet cafe.

Enjoy your time off and trust me. When you are at the ocean on a beach enjoying a cold drink you will not even think about the intertubes.

Innertubes, on the other hand, can be a great time! 😀

  • Have a fun and relaxing time.  Recharge your batteries, etc.  Should I fatten up a juicy baby for a Welcome Home Luau?

  • Have fun!

  •   Hope you have all sorts of fun, and looking forward to hearing from your students.

I was horrified and then delighted at your guest bloggers. Great choice, and great job giving the next generation a platform in order to make room for growth from the younger group.

    Yay Jessica! 🙂
