The Secular Student Alliance is giving up to $500 (and an engraved plaque!) to students who win the Best Individual Activist Award this year. Better yet, there are up to six of those awards up for grabs — three at the high school level and three at the college level.
Individual awards are intended to recognize individuals who have done excellent activist work independent of a student group. While officers and members of SSA affiliate groups are eligible for this award, activities done under the name of the group are not eligible for individual recognition.
You don’t have to be an SSA member to apply for the award but you do need to become a member to accept it. More information can be found here.

While we’re at it, any SSA affiliate group can apply for a whole host of other awards, too:
- Affiliate of the Year (college) – $500
- Affiliate of the Year (high school) – $300
- Best Educator – $300
- Best Service – $300
- Best Activism – $300
- Best Community – $300
- Best Cooperation – $300
- Best Faculty/Staff Advisor
A list of previous winners is here, in case you’d like to know if you’re worthy 🙂
All applications are due May 31st.
