Make Your Own Atheist Billboard! April 26, 2011

Make Your Own Atheist Billboard!

A lot of readers have loved the recent atheist billboards from the Freedom From Religion Foundation. This is just one example of the ones currently up in Raleigh, North Carolina:

Now, the FFRf is giving you a chance to make your own with any phrase you’d like to use:

All you have to do is submit your photo and enter your quotation. (You can see what other people have done here.)

Although we can’t put everyone on a real billboard, every nonbeliever can participate in this unique “cyberboard” campaign. (Yours might even be chosen, with your permission, for an actual billboard.) This is your chance to proclaim you’re a freethinker and why.

It took me a while to find a photo (I wish you could center it on your own like you can on Facebook)… but I think I found the perfect one. I hope my billboard is threatening enough:

It’s a good thing no one will *ever* use this billboard-generator for nefarious means… 🙂

"The way republican politics are going these days, that means the winner is worse than ..."

It’s Moving Day for the Friendly ..."
"It would have been more convincing if he used then rather than than."

It’s Moving Day for the Friendly ..."

It’s Curtis! I know Curtis from Triangle Atheists. Nice guy…

  • Roxane

    Hemant, yours is adorable!

  • Trace

    Why the anger? 😉

  • Simon

Speak of the devil. I actually just saw this billboard on a bus in DC:

  • You’re adorable, Hemant. :3

  • Tony

That’s clearly a pic of darth vader. Didn’t know he was an atheist.

Hemant, that look is enough to frighten small children! Remember, you’re the FRIENDLY Atheist…..

  • Richard P.

wahoo!! Always wanted to do one of those.

  • Hehe, awesome idea. Just submitted mine and awaiting approval 🙂

  • Aw, mine doesn’t look nearly as professional. Wish you could edit the text placement and such. It’s all good though, this is fun!

  • Ooo I can use the “out of the closet” to mean two things. Here is my billboard:

  • Noodly1

Yay! As someone who has an actual billboard (assuming the recent tornadoes [aka God] didn’t take it down), I’m happy that there’s a way for more people to “come out”!!

    FFRF rocks!!

  • Noodly1

Not to mention, we were explicitly denied the use of the word “god” by the billboard company. Which, of course, made some of our statements a bit challenging. Nice that FFRF has no such restrictions.

  • Noodly1

But, yeah, hey Hemant, why did you pick Curtis to showcase and not that attractive Zepp family billboard? 😉

  • atheism: because you already don’t believe in all those other gods. let go of yours. it’s common sense, and feels good!

  • and Hemant, if that’s “friendly” we should send you to church on sunday, and let them make you angry. you’ll empty the place just with a growl. 😉

if i go up with Hemant’s ad, i want mine to read “atheism: because i’m tired of all you stupid people ruining the country for something that isn’t there. science works, get over it.” and i’ll scowl like a pirate for my pic.

Aww, you’ve got that adorable Johnny Depp look when you frown! I don’t think I’ve ever seen a picture of you frowning either!

    That caption is hilarious though.

  • Sinfanti

    Got mine!

Hope this makes up for me not having a profile pic here.

  • Hemant, your Scary Face is so darn adorkable.

  • Carrie

    Great campaign…I submitted mine!

  • Mriana

Hemant, I hope you don’t mind, but I showed yours on my blog post at with mine and TWO thumbs up, just for making me laugh. Of course, I gave a link for your blog on it too. 🙂 If you’re lucky, you’ll get some more visitors too. Great virtual billboard! Love it!

  • Randy

Hemant’s can be used for everything from “Stop Smoking” to “Don’t forget your anniversary”.

  • Aah yes, those links were playing up and I didn’t check mine. Thanks for the tip Just Al!
