A Few New Atheist Posters

Rose Schwartz at The Jewmanist has been making some sweet-looking posters of notable quotations along with their atheist authors. A few examples are below:

Faith is the surrender of the mind; it’s the surrender of reason, it’s the surrender of the only thing that makes us different from other mammals. It’s our need to believe, and to surrender our skepticism and our reason, our yearning to discard that and put all our trust or faith in someone or something, that is the sinister thing to me. Of all the supposed virtues, faith must be the most overrated. — Christopher Hitchens

In fact, ”atheism” is a term that should not even exist. No one ever needs to identify himself as a “non-astrologer” or a “non-alchemist.” We do not have words for people who doubt that Elvis is still alive or that aliens have traversed the galaxy only to molest ranchers and their cattle. Atheism is nothing more than the noises reasonable people make in the presence of unjustified religious beliefs. — Sam Harris

The world is so exquisite with so much love and moral depth, that there is no reason to deceive ourselves with pretty stories for which there’s little good evidence. Far better it seems to me, in our vulnerability, is to look death in the eye and to be grateful every day for the brief but magnificent opportunity that life provides. — Carl Sagan

I’m loving this collection and I hope she keeps these coming 🙂 If you like them, send some love her way!

    Beautiful 🙂

  • It’s our need to believe, and to surrender our skepticism and our reason, our yearning to discard that and put all our trust or faith in someone or something, that is the sinister thing to me.

It’s ok – I don’t believe Mr Hitchens, am skeptical of his definition of faith and generally lack faith in him as a reliable source, so I guess that means he’d be pleased with me, right? 😛

  • John Allen

Mr.Hitchens has validated what I always felt and have known my whole life of 45 years but have not been able to express. He has brought me great peace and joy with his talents and expertise.

The idea is great. But these posters are terrible for two reasons. There are too many words and people won’t take the time to read them. They are designed in such a way as to make the text so difficult to read that no one will bother.

  • T-shirts next?

  • Ian

Those are way too text heavy, the third is almost okay, but I glaze over anything with more than a dozen or so words.

  • Sue D. Nymme

    Very nice.

  • ManaCostly

    Like!

  • Tim

@Ian: Can you repeat that in 12 words or less? I glazed over. 😛

  • freddy

Beginning to appreciate Carl Sagan’s soul. What a wonderful man.

  • Balls

Second ones looks the best. I like the first quote the most but that wall of text is an eyesore, it also makes me dizzy.

  • Carl Sagan

I’m not an atheist. I’m agnostic

  • Ben

I absolutely admire Christopher Hithcens. To me it seems that Christopher Hitchens treats people as adults and tells it like it is and lays cards as they may. He gives balls to atheists.

  • gribblethemunchkin

Carl Sagan kicks so much moral and intellectual ass. I honestly can’t think of a better example of the optimism and wonder of life that science can provide. Watching him in cosmos almost bought tears to my eyes at times.

Harris and Hitch are ok too.

  • Wow Sam Harris was so right. I mean, people who don’t have a job don’t call themselves Un-employed, and people who don’t have a home don’t call themselves home-less.

    *eyeroll*

  • Lobar

I must agree with Greg. A poster you have to force yourself to read is a bad poster.

  • Bronco

    Ouch. Bad art.

  • Justin

Yeah, I think it says something that I skipped over the posters and read the quotes in the plain text underneath. These things are eyestrain waiting to happen.

  • Nick

It’s been said before, but poor design. No big deal, just try again.

Is it just me, or do atheists have a hard time finding good graphic designers?

  • Well I like them.

  • The quotes are okay, but the posters are ugly.

  • Wow. I get the good intentions, but man, those are eye-wateringly bad designs.

  • Laura

The proud atheist in me is smiling.

The graphic designer in me is ready to cry.

  • Aatheist

Another interesting poster using a quote from Christopher Hitchens.
