Nate Phelps Speaks About His Atheism

Nate Phelps, the son of Westboro Baptist Church’s Fred Phelps, did an interview at The Pod Delusion where he talks about why he left the “God Hates Fags” church and how he is now actively trying (a la Richard Dawkins) to convince people to lose their faith.

The relevant portion begins at the 14:25 mark.

Nate Phelps also appeared on FFRF’s Freethought Today last week.

Can these podcasts be downloaded as MP3s?

  • Yep, head over to where you can find a link 🙂

You can also subscribe on iTunes, which I recommend 😉

  • this is the first i heard of him. wow!

(also, did you know that fred phelps was a tireless advocate for racial civil rights? i believe he has a number of awards for being such an advocate for civil rights during the 60’s and 70’s. i’m pretty sure he was a lawyer so that’s how he made an impact.)

I knew there were children of his that had distanced themselves from the family but I had not heard of Nate till now–although it is easy for one of us to say that he is better off, I’m sure it was very difficult to leave his family, as crazy and venomous as they are. I would guess they have disowned him as they do the other members of the family that are not in lock-step with Fred. My heart goes out to him.

I look forward to listening to some of his podcasts.

It had to be hard and cudos to him for speaking out now. He must have felt a sense of urgency to counter the nonsense. It’s got to be a bitch going about with the name Phelps and not being of that whole god hates fags mindset.
