Penn’s New Book

Publishers Weekly has a bit of info on Penn Jillette‘s upcoming book:

The louder, larger half of magic duo Penn & Teller, novelist, comedian and producer of The Aristocrats, Penn Jillette’s GOD, NO! SIGNS YOU MAY ALREADY BE AN ATHEIST AND OTHER MAGICAL TALES, a reinterpretation of the ten commandments that reveals one outspoken atheist’s experience in the world — from performing on the Vegas strip alongside Siegfried and Roy to children and fatherhood to his ongoing dialogue with proselytizers of the Christian Right and the joys of sex while scuba-diving, to Sarah Hochman at Simon & Schuster, for publication in November 2010, by Steve Fisher at APA (world).

And it’s already available for pre-order.

Ooh, I wrote a new book!
Er, no, wait. The other Penn wrote a book. I’ll have to read that, sounds interesting.

  • Still disappointed P&T won’t be performing while I’m in Vegas for TAM8, but I’ll get his book all the same.

Sex while scuba diving is awkward. Gravity is usually your friend in copulation, you only have to exert energy one direction and it pulls the rest. Not entirely unpleasant, and nifty that you can say ‘I did that’, but like joining the ‘mile high club’ in the coach section of an airplane, it’s an act performed for the sheer audacity rather than the carnal pleasure.

I’d also recommend lubricating before the dive, all that water tends to dilute any natural lubrication.

Plenty of lubrication in the Gulf of Mexico.

    And more to come. (Feldman)

I have a lot of time for Penn Jillette. While i don’t hold with any of that libertarian nonsense, he at least has taken active measures to promote critical thinking and consistently spoken out against woo.

Also, the Penn and Teller shows are awesome.

May have to pick up a copy.

Any of it? Not even the parts about personal liberty?

I actually was hoping to never know anything about Penn’s sex life, so… thanks for this. Ick.

I enjoy Penn’s skeptical stuff, but his political views make me wanna scream. He has a series of videos on youtube, and I watched one where he discussed gay marriage, and he was like, well, ok, I guess they should get married. I don’t want anyone to get married because the government shouldn’t interfere, even though I am married. But the reason is I NEED those benefits, because what if my spouse dies? What will happen to our kids? I personally invite him to get a divorce after they turn 18, if that is the ONLY reason he got married.
