A Couple Events in Chicago This Weekend

For atheists near Chicago, there are a couple events in the city you might be interested in this weekend.

Friday night, PZ Myers is coming to town to participate in a panel discussion on God and morality and how they shape our world. He’ll be joined by Communist Sunsara Taylor and Catholic priest Bob Bossie.

The event is at the University of Chicago at 7:00 p.m. All the details are here.

Barring some unforeseen weirdness, I hope to be there!

Saturday night, I’m participating in a dialogue on Christianity, atheism, and how to break down the stereotypes we have of each other at the Moody Church. I’ll be joined by Christian apologist Ronald Danatus. The event starts at 6:30 p.m.

Unlike PZ’s event, mine talks place in non-neutral territory! Support would be appreciated 🙂

Why, oh, why must all the fun events come to UChicago the year *after* I graduated and moved half a continent away?!

I am so stoked about these events! I’d love to come to both! I might not be able to make the PZ Meyers event because of rush hour drive times and getting out of work late, but we’ll see!

Hemant, maybe I can finally meet you this weekend!

Ah I’ll be seeing Neil Gaiman saturday night. And last night I just made plans for tonight 🙁 My girlfriend goes to Moody 🙁 But I talked her into going to the UU church in lakeview sunday.

@ plutosdad – ha! At least I’m not the only one who’s missing out on these events in order to indulge the geekiness (damn you C2E2 and your inconvenient timing with Neil Gaiman, comics & mythology and adapting comics to film & tv panels and the Dr. Who premiere!).

I have a few friends who are going to PZ’s thing and possibly your event at the Moody Church, though. Good luck Hemant!

  • I’m definitely going to the event Friday night.

I’m not deadset on the Moody event, although now that I read through it more clearly, I will make a great effort to be there.

I’ll go to the Moody event. I live nearby.

If anyone wants to go get sushi or pizza afterward, e-mail me at lauren@teachspace.org.
