Weekend Plans

If you’re awesome (and near Chicago), here’s where you want to be this weekend:

Saturday is Skepchicamp! I’ll be at Brehon Pub in Chicago with 9234341241 (rounded down to approximately 80) fellow skeptics sharing in food and talks. I can’t wait. Skepchick Elyse has put together an awesome event and I’m thrilled to be a part of it.

And on Sunday at 10:00 a.m. you can come to church with me.

For reals.

I’ll be speaking at Willow Chicago — the downtown campus of Willow Creek Community Church — about my experiences visiting evangelical churches and interacting with Christians.

Don Miller will be their main speaker that day (via video feed) — he’s a popular author with the younger Christian crowd. I read his book Blue Like Jazz a while back and honestly enjoyed it. I did laugh, though, during the part where he writes about visiting Reed College, a liberal school in Oregon:

It is a godless place, known for existential experimentation of all sorts. There are no rules at Reed, and many of the students there have issues with authority. Reed students, however, are also brilliant.

I’m not kidding, though. His book was really good. And he stumped for Obama in 2008. I’m excited to see him speak, even if it won’t be in person.

  • I am commenting after the fact, but I’m guessing you enjoyed Don Miller… I have heard him on audio and always enjoyed what he had to say.
