As You Begin Your Holiday Shopping… November 26, 2009

As You Begin Your Holiday Shopping…

Just a reminder to anyone who plans to shop online this holiday season:

If you’re buying anything on Amazon in the near future, please use this link to get to the website!

If you do that, a portion of your spending will come back to me and I will smile.

Last year, a few people mentioned that they would’ve done this had they known about the link — I didn’t provide it and they bought their Amazon goodness regardless — so I’m trying to prevent that this time around!

If you’re buying a computer or camera or a $1,000,000 bill, I will be especially grateful.

That is all. Thanks in advance.

Darn. if I had know about this I would have done so. Just a few minutes ago I began my holiday shopping, at Amazon.

  • Brian — *I shake my fist at you*

  • DOH! Just bought a $400 gadget 2 days ago. Don’t wait until T-giving next time!!!

  • Takma’rierah

Yeeeaaah, I just went and bought seasons 1-4 of Supernatural and downloaded a CD. A few minutes earlier…!

  • Heinlein_Fan — Curse you!

  • Takma’rierah — Now, that’s just rubbing it in.

  • Sandra S

Out of curiosity — how much is “a portion”?

  • Sandra — It varies, but in most cases, it could be 6-10% of the purchase price.

  • Sandra S

Really? I was thinking maybe 1%… That is a nice deal. Well, at least you’re not too late in my case, I don’t buy gifts until the last possible day. Heck, I don’t do anything until the last possible day!

Anyway, I’ll be sure to buy any gifts from amazon through that link then. Nice way for broke-as-a-joke students like myself to donate something.

  • Whew, fortunately I haven’t started my shopping yet. So I’m gonna bookmark this and use it as soon as I do. Thanks for letting us know Hemant!!

  • Richard Wade

Hemant, is there a link to Amazon on the sidebar that I’m missing? Once this post goes into the back pages, the link it has will be lost.

  • Richard — If you click on the image of my book (or Jim’s book), you can buy whatever you want and it’ll accomplish the same thing!

I hesitate to mention this, since I am already on the hook to rework this for the Atheists of Utah, but there is a Firefox plugin that auto-magically adds Amazon session-data (if it doesn’t already exist, that is) for a project called Miro.

    I ♥ Miro
    Plugin download

Its an open source plugin, so I see no reason why we can’t all use it towards our plans for planetary domination mutual benefit.

How about creating a Firefox search plugin? It’s really easy to do and then people could just use the search box in Firefox while supporting the site.

I’ve been reading the FA for a while now, and I really wish I would have known about this before…I’ve bought an ungodly amount of board games on Amzon.

  • Trace

    We’ll do.

  • muggle

Wish I had known about this sooner. I’ve recently bought quite a bit from Amazon.

I didn’t know clicking on the books in the sidebar (I’ve got to eventually get yours about selling your soul on e-bay as that’s just too funny) would do the same thing but is it possible to do an Amazon icon on the side so we’ll remember we can support your site this way?

  • muggle

Duh. Now I read that it supports the site even without buying the book.

What happened to the edit feature? I need the edit feature? Can you bring it back, please?

  • Matt

I don’t shop online because I don’t have a credit card (or a job!). But I’ve had my immediate family doing this ever since you said something about it last year(?).

  • Julie

Nice! I’ve got the Amazon screen open, but I’ll close it and start over here!

  • Hemant,

My wife and I have solved our holiday gift giving. Every year, we throw some money at Heifer International and send cards to all our friends and family letting them know what we just did in their name. Then we invite them over for a little wine and food.

  • Kiera

We’re planning on doing much of our holiday shopping on Amazon. I’ll definitely use your link!

  • Carolyn

Hrmm… I still have some holiday shopping left to do.

But, I bought $300 worth of toy donations from Amazon just the other week. Darnit!

  • Sive

I just bought two books through this and will gladly do MORE shopping on Amazon this season since I know it will help someone!
