The Japanese Version of the Atheist Bus Campaign? October 25, 2009

The Japanese Version of the Atheist Bus Campaign?

I learned something new today.

Take the atheist bus campaign slogan:

“There’s probably no god. Now stop worrying and enjoy your life.”

If you translate it into Japanese, and then back into English, and then back into Japanese, and then back into English, and then back into Japanese, and then back into English, and then back into Japanese, and then back into English, and then back into Japanese, and then back into English, and then back into Japanese, and then back into English, and then back into Japanese, and then back into English, and then back into Japanese, and then back into English, and then back into Japanese, and then back into English, and then back into Japanese, and then back into English, you get:

“Perhaps God. If the time please please, as soon as possible, you can enjoy your life you can stop the next issue.”

So there you go. We have translation equilibrium.

English, Japanese or English into Japanese again, again and again and again and again and again, English, Japanese, English, Japanese, click again and again and again, English, English, English, Again, Japanese, Japanese, Japanese to English translation, Japan, back, in English, is to get tourists to Japan:

  • I tried “Good without god” and got sigh. This may just be my new favorite website.

  • Jenea

“Do unto others as you would have others do unto you” never goes into equilibrium, quitting after “Many people of many other people please please. Please know how to entertain.” By contrast, “treat others as you want to be treated” goes into equilibrium almost immediately (“treat people as you want to be treated”).

The algorithm is sensitive. “Do no harm” “do no harm.” and “Do no harm.” all end up in different places. All are funny.

Also, “Good without God.” (with the caps and the period) translates directly right away.

  • Worship Me or I will torture you forever. Have a nice day! – God

    Translates to:

Worship Me or I will be tortured forever. Welcome require a Nice Day! – God

    BWAAAAHAHHAAHHAAHAAA!!!

  • I tried “Millions are good without God” and got equilibrium in two steps.

  • Kris

This Carl Sagan one never reaches equilibrium!

“Pie chart is the first area of interest from the top of the display. Must be invented.”

“Fix reason firmly in her seat, and call to her tribunal every fact, every opinion. Question with boldness even the existence of a God; because, if there be one, he must more approve of the homage of reason, than that of blindfolded fear.”
    -Thomas Jefferson

    Becomes:

“Fixes in my seat, all the facts, her law firm, calls the opinion of all. A bold question, if God exists, terrorist attacks, he has been approved by respecting the privacy of the screen as necessary for several reasons.”

The best part was about half-way through the process, where it started saying God was a terrorist.

“An eye for an eye only ends up making the whole world blind” –> “A just world, the end of the Visually Impaired”

  • Brilliant!

“Science is interesting, and if you don’t agree, you can fuck off.”

“If the science is clear: do not accept the possibility of sexual interest.”

    Abstinence only education ftw!

    A few I liked:
An eye for an eye leaves the whole world blind. becomes:
This leaves the world to ignore the following.

“There’s probably no god. Now stop worrying and enjoy your life.” with quotes and period alternates:
Of God, “perhaps, stop the heart (,/and) please enjoy your life.”
