SuperGod to Hit Comic Book Shelves in November

It’s just a comic book, but I’m sure this will be seen by some as controversial:

The story is SuperGod by Warren Ellis and Garrie Gastonny and you can see a preview of it here.

… In the world of SUPERGOD, superhumans are the ultimate expression of the Messiah complex, and scientists can build Messiahs who will fly down from the skies to save the world. No-one thought about how they’d do it — or even if they’d want to. So begins the apocalyptic tomorrow of SUPERGOD — the story of how supermen killed us all and ended the world just because we wanted to be rescued by human-shaped things from beyond Science itself! Take every superhero comic ever published, shove them into a nuclear-powered blender, soak it in bad vodka and set the whole thing alight — and SUPERGOD will crawl out and eat your brain!

Umm… ok. I’m going to ignore that description and judge the book by its cover. In which case I can’t wait to read this.

That description doesn’t appeal to you? I don’t think I could resist buying a book that claimed it rose from a book-ocalypse to eat your brain.

  • Holy shit, this is going to be excellent. I love me some Warren Ellis.

Another comic to check out, if you like crazy religious commentary, is Preacher by Garth Ennis.

  • mikespeir

I’ve always wondered how when superheroes survive all kinds of abuse their uniforms, at least, aren’t shredded. Well, this guy needs to go to the same tailor the others do.

  • Comic Book Guy

Forget the cover, its written by Warren Ellis.

    You’re in for a treat!

  • Warren Ellis is a freaking genius. I can’t wait for this to come out.

BTW, if you haven’t read Transmetropolitan go get it right now!!! Spider Jerusalem is the best non-superhero comic book character in the history of the world! Do it or I will use my bowel disruptor on you!!!

  • What, no wound in the side?

  • cypressgreen

    Preacher IS a wonderful series!

  • Harknights

I met Warren Ellis at the ComiCon a couple years ago. Dude is super cool and super nice.

    For what that is worth.

    Preacher Rocked!!!

  • Ooh, I’m totally excited for this!

  • Freak

For Superman, his uniform was made from the remnants of Kryptonian blankets, and is as indestructible as he is. (I don’t recall how Ma Kent was able to sew it together.)

Batman’s suit is probably stronger than any normal opponent can damage.

Empowered’s hypermembrane does get damaged during fights.

  • Andrew C.

    Awesome, I love Warren Ellis.

I met him at Chicago last year. He was really nice and friendly, which surprised me due to his reputation.

  • Let me join the chorus pointing out that it’s by Warren Ellis, so the chances of awesomeness are extremely high. The man is brilliant.

  • Eduardo de Oliveira Padoan

If you are new to the work of mr. Warren Bloody Genius Ellis, make sure to read Transmetropolitan. Of special interest to the readers of this blog is #06 — “God Riding Shotgun”.
“Official Serbian Church of Tesla.” ‘Nuff said.

  • Gabriel

Ellis rocks. I look forward to this. He did great work in the past.

  • I follow Warren Ellis on Twitter. It’s entertaining the way he puts on an act of being really anti-social while at the same time seems to go out of his way to answer questions from his fans.

In Ellis’s Iron Man: Extremis there’s a scene where the religious villain kills an atheist girl he meets.

  • False Prophet

Warren Ellis rocks! Probably my favourite comic book writer, starting at least from that issue of The Authority where the titular superhero team kill God. (Well, the giant alien lifeform that seeded life on Earth billions of years ago and came back to “harvest its crops”, but same idea.) Totally picking up this one!

@Harknights: Preacher did rock, but that was Garth Ennis, not Ellis. 🙂

  • Cool, some good news about comics to counter the Disney buy out of Marvel. Yay.

  • Wes

When Ellis publishes at Avatar, it’s usually garbage he couldn’t publish anywhere else. In fact, Avatar has basically cornered the “Failed Ideas by Famous Comic Writers” niche. When a good writer has a half-baked idea they can’t turn into a real story, they publish at Avatar.

  • Pony

Everyone who loves Warren Ellis should be reading Freak Angels, which is loosely based on the idea of the children from “The Midwich Cuckoos” (filmed as “Village of the Damned”) growing up and what they might do then.

Can’t wait to read this one.
