Sean Faircloth’s Speech at the Secular Student Alliance 2009 Conference

At the Secular Student Alliance conference a few weeks ago, Sean Faircloth, the Executive Director of the Secular Coalition for America spoke.

You can check out the talk below. Faircloth talks about the dangers of faith-“healing” and faith-based initiatives, among many other topics, and what the rest of us need to do to fight back.

The highlight for me begins at the 11:30 mark:

Regarding the first minute of the talk (Abraham’s sacrifice of Isaac), I remember as a small child asking my father if he would ever sacrifice me if he heard God telling him to. I was greatly relieved when he replied that he would instead turn himself in to a mental hospital.

Wow. I don’t think I’ve ever heard a more cogent and succinct argument for the church/state divide and the need to re-examine the “special privileges” of religious organizations.

  • I love Sean Faircloth. Here’s more proof that religious “affirmative action” ought to be ended. Three cheers for Sean!
