Chris Brown is the entertainer who assaulted and threatened singer Rihanna several months ago.
A couple days ago, his sentencing came down: five years of probation, a year of domestic violence counseling, six months of community service, and a restraining order.
What does Brown’s mother have to say about all this?
I just want to say from the bottom of my heart thank you for your continued support. I’m sorry I wasn’t allowed to speak to anyone as this case was on going. I can now say this has been the most painful moment in my entire life, but knowing that you were still standing by Chris side in his time of need made this a little easier for us… I made a promise to him I would never be ashamed of him no matter where I am or who I talk to. You see this whole thing isn’t about Chris it’s about God. He wants to show all of you the goodness of him through Chris. Chris will be addressing all of his fans very soon. We love you so much and so does God.”
So… the goodness of God is seen through domestic abuse? (No, really, can anyone explain that to me?)
I’m going to use that excuse if I ever commit a crime: “Judge, this isn’t about how I slapped that grandmother. It’s about God. He’s showing his goodness through me.”
This is about a man who did something awful and will now (thankfully) have to pay the price for it. If he truly changes because of his religious beliefs, fantastic. But if a god gets credit for making things better, then a god deserves blame for allowing him to beat a woman in the first place.
