Comedian Jim Jeffries Jokes About Religion in His HBO Special

In case you hadn’t seen this yet, HBO recently aired a stand-up comedy special called I Swear to God featuring Australian comedian Jim Jeffries.

There are a lot of bits about religion and Jeffries’ own atheism. He’s not exactly “friendly” about it all. And some of his material is NSFW. But he does make a number of good (and hilarious) points.

Here’s a good starting point:

Think that guy is nasty check out George Carlin’s take on religion:

    Also NSFW

  • I linked to this clip in my blog after I saw it. I laughed so hard my eyes watered.

Further proof there is no god: Jefferies would’ve been struck down by lightning, or some such similar dire fate.

  • Part 1? Where can we find part 2?

    I liked his
    – getting bored with eternal bliss
    – one-sided argument (God & Devil)
    – God works in mysterious ways

  • Seth C.

Ah, the whole heaven and hell deal, it’s all based on the human idea that somebody has to get punished.

I know he’s a comedian but he seriously rips the Bible up in his quotations. He’s worse than the fundies on getting Dogma mixed up with the text. It makes a good point though 🙂

He’s still got a whole bunch of other gods to make fun of it. Plus, if “God” exists, it was probably laughing too.

Satan would be rewarding the evil doers, not torturing them – of course! I can’t believe I never thought of this. I have to go find a fundie to hassle.

  • He does have other parts of his “I swear to God” tour posted on his You-tube channel, but those other parts are not focused on religion.

I thought it was really funny. I’ll look out for him.

    Thanks so much!

He doesn’t seem like a very happy person… must be hard to be him if people piss him off that much.

  • TXatheist

Hilarious and it’s no wonder he appears unhappy cause you are dealing with so many people that can’t handle the FACTS and it’s enduring.

  • “There is nothing mysterious about being a fucking asshole.”

    Amen, brother Jim. LMAO!

  • bernerbits

Good God that man is funny. I say that without a hint of irony. Been a while since I had a good laugh. Thanks for that Hemant.

Although, to be honest, I don’t think the religion part was his funniest bit.

He is a regular on Opie and Anthony.

The man is hilarious. He was great on HBOs Down and Dirty wit Jim Norton also. Not religious jokes but that’s really only a small part of his act.
