I’m an Jain Atheist and I would like to provide some corrections to the answers Hemant gave to some of the questions on Jainism.

    Q: How old is Jainism?
A: Jainism is supposed to be the oldest religion. (at least that’s what Jainism literature claims). The 24th and last Tirthankara – Mahavira (The Jesus like person of Jainism) was around the same time of Gautam Bhudhdha. The previous 23 Tirthankaras were much before. Thus Jainism is not offshoot of Budhdhism or Hinduism.
When I was kid I was taught that Hinduism is in-fact an offshoot of Jainsm.

    Thanks and Regards,

  • Terrific discussion. I wish I could have been there. I made a playlist for easier viewing:

Interesting and well done talk. I really see now that we, you and I, are atheists in the same tone that we are vegetarian. The questions at the end were very deep, and I thought you responded well. I must admit that I sometimes wish I had more of an oppurtunity to talk about atheism and what I believe instead.

Thanks for the positivity and optimism!
