Military Atheists, Send in Your Stories

The Military Association of Atheist and Freethinkers is looking to collect stories from atheists in foxholes for use in an upcoming anthology:

This anthology will include first-hand accounts of Atheists, Agnostics, Freethinkers, Humanists, Secularists, and other non-believers who have served in the military in any capacity or who have a close association with someone who has served. We atheists have served honorably throughout history and still do today. We serve in foxholes, on planes, on ships, and in the service and defense of our values wherever that service may require us. We will ensure that our story is told.

If you would like to submit your story, please do so here!

I suspect that Pat Tillman will be a topic in there (or, if not, was at least a motivation for the book). I’m curious to see how many (if any) writings of his and his family are included. (I read here that he had, at least once upon a time, kept a journal, and that it included why he didn’t need organized religion.) Though the truth about his death may never be proven, I’ve always been inclined to believe that he was murdered.

I’ve never been in the military, but I gather atheists are not welcome to make their disbelief know. Hence I could not be in the US military the way it is and has been.

Hopefully I’m wrong, but I doubt there will be any posts here from anyone on active duty, as anything they submit would be screened and likely read by superiors.
