Greydon Square: Live Performance

Here’s video of a live performance from atheist rapper Greydon Square at the 2007 Atheist Alliance International Convention. The person wearing the black shirt, singing along at times, is Brian Sapient of the Rational Response Squad:

Awesome. Not too often you get to hear an intelligent rap song that includes Pascal’s Wager and the Flying Spaghetti Monster.

If you want the lyrics so you can sing along (and you know you do), here they are.

  • Awesome video. Now I have to have everything by Greydon.

That is probably the most unlikely remark I have ever heard. As my daughter would say, “That is so random.”

I had to read the lyrics, but this would be far better than that rap crap my younger son likes to jam to all the time.

Than again, maybe I’m the one who’s crazy. 😆

  • Greydon is a friend of mine. Not only is he a great MC, but he’s a nice guy, and smart as hell, too.

He puts out a video blog of sorts over at youtube where he talks about a lot of different things.

Well, let him know, I’m trying to get my younger son off that New Guess who’s back Vanilla Ice dude and Luney (Luda) dude and turned on to his stuff. It’s just not working. He mumbles something about him being an atheist. Maybe he’s afraid of the other kids, I don’t know. He’s pinned me down many times about what I believe and even said, “Well if you are an atheist, that’s cool.” My older son knows, but I think my younger son is shying way from the thought- even though he says he makes his own rules.

I’ve tried to explain to my younger son, this guy doesn’t talk derogatorily about women or of insiting violence or drugs or alike. Guess that is part of what he doesn’t like. I don’t know. 🙁 I’ll keep working on him though. IF he’s going to listen to rap, I’d rather he’d listen to something that’s doesn’t involve degrading women, glorifying drugs, violence, and alike. Then again, he wasn’t turned on by Kyan West’s “Jesus Walks” either. I actually like that one, even though I don’t understand all the words. I looked them up once and didn’t find anything truly objectionable. No he rather listen to that Looney dude and that new Vanilla Ice dude that sings about toy soldiers falling down (“we all fall down”) due to violence and that one who sings about a roli on his wrist and alike. 🙄

  • The black Carl Sagan, huh? Is this guy a world-renowned scientist too?

  • Actually, Greydon is an astrophysics major, so maybe someday…

  • Mriana… are you trying to control your son’s music? People my age would object.

  • AJ

He’s like a swiss army knife, able to rap, do science, and philosophy.

  • He seems talented, but I can’t really imagine seeking music out simply because it has an atheist message. Now, Satanic metal is a different story!

  • Karen

Cool. I like Greydon Square a lot, and I think he’s a great draw for younger people and people of color. I saw a lot of hypocrisy and exploitation in black churches when I was a Christian, so I’d love to see more African-Americans adopting reason and jettisoning religion.

Nah, just making him buy his own music and making suggestions to him. IF I were controlling it, I’d be taking every rap CD away that he brings into this house.

  • I like it!!!!

Got his album a couple of months ago and love it. But I think the “Black Carl Sagan” distinction really should go to Neal deGrasse Tyson.

  • I know how you feel, mriana. They don’t make music like they used to. Why can’t they make pretty music? I mean, like “Heroin” by the Velvets, that was a pretty song. Or “They Saved Hitler’s Cock” by the Angry Samoans, or “Too Drunk To Fuck” by the Dead Kennedys, or (best of all) “Bar B Q Pope” by the Butthole Surfers. They don’t make them like that any more. It’s all just a bunch of damn noise.

Greydon is cute, though, as far as I can tell in the shadow there. Not terribly bright, it seems, but cute. He shoulda pushed that white boy in the pool, though. “We’re all brothers and sisters in the same cause,” eh? And as the jailer said to Bertrand Russell on learning that Russell was an agnostic, there are many religions in the world, but they all believe in the same god. (Cthulhu.)

😆 Well actually, I would go for Diana Ross, Cher, Donna Summer, Barbra Streisand, Fleetwood Mac, Heart, BTO, KC and the Sunshine Band, BOC, Commadores, and alike. However, I know my younger son is not into that type of music.
