A pastor trying to market his upcoming sermons on healthy marriages sent out 50,000 flyers that read “RED HOT SEX”… needless to say, many of the recipients weren’t amused.
Joshua Cody at Church Marketing Sucks says this:
The long and short of it left a community asking hard questions like, “Why didn’t the church spend this money on the community?” And it left the pastor saying he would do it all over again, but he wouldn’t do it again. If that makes sense.
You’ll see what that comment is referring to when you see the CNN video report (if you’re at work, turn the sound off).
You know, if Pastor Gene Wolfenbarger was just a … umm… good speaker, he wouldn’t have to resort to shock-value techniques to draw people to church.
He says in the video that people wouldn’t have come to church if he had written “holiness” or “have a good marriage” on the envelope. That says more about him than it does his congregation.
