Top Atheist Comedians (Part 2)

After I posted my list of my Top 5 comedy bits for atheists, there were several comments listing other great comedians that discuss religion in their act. Here are some of my favorites:

  • Jim Gaffigan
  • Thanks to Macht for the link!

  • Robin Ince
  • Thanks to David W. for the link!

(By the way, anyone else think the “Banana Design” line (1:45 mark) is a reference to something we’ve seen before…?)

  • Dane Cook
  • Thanks to Sara for the link!

  • Eddie Izzard
  • Thanks to KC and yinyang for the links!

Pardon the criticism, but why isn’t George Carlin on the list? He is 70 on May 12th, but still alive and hilarious. 🙂

  • He’s on part one.

  • You’re forgetting the greatest atheist comedian of all: George Carlin. He is a god among men (pun intended).

  • Richard Wade

For George Carlin and others see “Top 5 Comedy Bits (For an Atheist)” on the previous page from last week. Great stuff.

  • Eddie Izzard is a legend (and not just ‘cos he’s English like me!). If you can get a copy of Glorious, it’s basically a walk through the entire Bible. The man’s a genius.

  • Mike JC

David Cross belongs on this list. He has some great bits on religion. Here’s a link to one that I found on You Tube but I’m sure there are plenty more.

Also, I would argue against including Dane Cook. I’ve heard him do routines against atheism, which came off as pro-catholic.

  • Mike JC,

David Cross was featured in the first iteration of atheist comics. Does making fun of religion make someone an atheist though? Granted, when you don’t believe in the rituals of a religion, and you see odd rituals pointed out, it’s hilarious, but someone can criticize Christianity, or any religion, and still be a member of another faith, or still have a faith in a god.

  • There’s a Billy Connolly clip that I can’t find anywhere (apart from on a DVD in my living room) about a rabid priest who visited his school.

Anyone who can hear Billy saying “AND YOUS’LL BURN IN THE FIRES OF HEEEELLLLLLLL!!!!” has seen it.

I know that this is an old thread…
but, I hope that someone can help me figure out who this atheist comedian is that I saw years ago at the Lake Hypatia 4th of July Freethought Celebration.

I have no idea of this guy’s name-I tried to get a copy of it back then from the guy who brought it, anyway, what I can remember about the guy is that he and his sister were raised by a single mother and a lot of his humor revolved around that life circumstance. I seem vaguely to remember that he recounted a tale about his mother bringing home a priest or minister as a romantic interest and how he reacted to it.

I know it’s just a shot in the dark and that isn’t much to go on but any help would be appreciated…the guy was really funny.

Listing Dane Cook in the top anything of comedians should be a punishable offense.
