Hemant Mehta is the editor of Friendly Atheist, appears on the Atheist Voice channel on YouTube, and co-hosts the uniquely-named Friendly Atheist Podcast. He is a former National Board Certified high school math teacher in the suburbs of Chicago, where he taught for seven years.

He has served on the board of directors for Foundation Beyond Belief (a charity organization targeting non-theistic donors) and was the chair of the board of the Secular Student Alliance (which creates and supports college atheist groups nationwide).

Last week, Bridgeport (Connecticut) Police Chief Armando Perez argued that the crime rates in his city were going up “because people have abandoned church, people have abandoned God, and that cannot happen.” As if atheists caused all the crimes. A couple of weeks ago, just after Georgia’s Heritage High School football team finished practice, there was a mass baptism. The students were joined by the team chaplain (they have one of those), a minister, and the head coach as they all watched nearly a dozen teammates accept Christ into their lives. Cara Prior, who’s running for the Arizona State House, and her husband Scott Prior, who’s running for State Senate, are holding an event this Friday night at Sonny’s Gentlemen’s Club. Their goal is to draw attention to the Center for Arizona Policy, an influential conservative lobbying group that fights against the bodily autonomy of women, which they plan to take on if elected.
