Hemant Mehta is the editor of Friendly Atheist, appears on the Atheist Voice channel on YouTube, and co-hosts the uniquely-named Friendly Atheist Podcast. He is a former National Board Certified high school math teacher in the suburbs of Chicago, where he taught for seven years.
Hemant has appeared on CNN and FOX News (really). He has served on the board of directors for Foundation Beyond Belief (a charity organization targeting non-theistic donors) and the Secular Student Alliance (which creates and supports college atheist groups nationwide).
Even though it’s a very Catholic and very Mexican holiday, Día de los Muertos has become a rather important holiday to me. It was celebrated on November 1 and November 2 — the first day honoring dead children and infants, the second honoring dead adults — and gives people the opportunity to pray for their lost loved ones. While we’re discussing atheist activist Justin Scott’s encounters with Iowa politicians, he also stopped Republican Rep. Rod Blum to ask a simple question: How would the U.S. House member tailor his message to non-religious constituents? Blum didn’t give an answer. Instead, he treated the exchange as if Scott had asked him a “gotcha” question. Read more

As you might expect, the GOP will do anything to discredit her in the weeks before an election, but if a recent mailer is the best the state’s Republican Party can do, it just shows how little they have to offer — and how little they think of their Christian base.
