Former PA Lawmaker Rick Saccone is Still Spewing Christian Nationalism Online

For years, Pennsylvania State Rep. Rick Saccone was a frequent presence on this site as a Christian Supremacist who did all he could to elevate the Bible over the Constitution. Church and State were overlapping circles on a Venn diagram, in his mind, and he had some success passing resolutions elevating his faith.

In 2012, Saccone sponsored a resolution declaring it the “Year of the Bible” in Pennsylvania because it would serve “as a reminder that we must look to our faith in God and the Holy Scripture to provide us with the strength, wisdom and courage to conquer these great trials.” In 2013, He sponsored “National Fast Day,” saying we owe our “dependence upon the overruling power of God” and that the only nations that are blessed are the ones “whose God is the Lord.” That same year, he sponsored the “National Motto Display Act,” which would put the words “In God We Trust” in every public school in the state. (He later claimed the bill was “bipartisan” because a single Democrat voted in favor of it and that even atheists backed it, citing his conversation with an unnamed leader of the Pennsylvania Atheists, a group which doesn’t exist.) He also said anyone who opposed his bill wasn’t really a patriot.

In 2015, Saccone told a church audience that our nation needed to “return to God through prayer” because that was the best way to prevent the country from descending into a “culture of chaos and destructive behavior.”

And then, assuming Jesus was carrying him, Saccone ran in a special election to the U.S. House in early 2018… where he was narrowly defeated by Democrat Conor Lamb. (Lamb comfortably won re-election months later.)

So what’s he up to now? It’s a question none of you were asking, but I have the answer anyway!

Saccone just launched his own blog called Veritas. And when a conservative uses that word, you know it’s just cover for the lies they want to spread.

In that video, Saccone says his goal is to inspire people to “think deeper about current events.”

How’s that working out? Well, let’s just see some excerpts from his recent posts…

Speaking of former head of Planned Parenthood Cecile Richards (or, as he mistakenly types it, “Cecil”), Saccone says she’s “Hitler to many of the pro-lifers fighting the infant holocaust she perpetuates. She is her own Joseph Goebbels Reich Minister of Propaganda for abortion.”

Liberals? “Nothing unites them more than their hate for GOD.”

The U.S. Women’s National Team that just won the World Cup? “Men have died honoring [the flag] why can’t a few whiney soccer players at least show the minimum of respect for it?”

I’m thinking deeper already. Scraping the bottom of the barrel, really.

But at least this tripe is just on his blog and not being spewed inside the state legislature anymore. It’s exactly the amount of attention Saccone deserves.
